I have the honour to transmit here-
with the enclosed copies of applications from Mr. E. Jones and
Encl. 2. Mr.E.J.Meugens, First and Second Boarding Officers in the Har-

2. While I am unable at the present time to
recommend an increase of their salaries in view of the fact
that the question of a general revision of salaries has been
recently before you and has not been entertained, I venture to
suggest that the house-allowances of these officers be in-
creased to $ 600 per annum each.
3. You will observe that one of the officers
already pays more than that sum, and it is I think beyond ques-
tion that their present house-allowances of $ 420 per annum
are not sufficient to procure houses in which officers in
their position can properly live..
